Embracing the Power of Self-Care

November 01, 20247 min read

It’s been an interesting month of October. We set the intention for selfcare and finding the ways to honor you on your journey and it certainly has had a ripple effect in my world. I have been on the go in October, traveling, prepping, procrastinating, moving through chaos, releasing through a day of meltdowns and finding motivation at the end of it all.

How does that even work?

In my world, it is not a mystery! When we start to find ourselves on the other side of a beautiful life that we are living, we might want to give up. In other words, when we find our joy, our spunk, our energy, start to dwindle, fall flat or just have us in a funk, it’s easy to let everything go, move into overwhelm and let life guide us instead of us guiding our life.

So how do you reset when chaos and overwhelm surround you?

The answers can vary greatly but here’s what I’ve learned: when you’re meant to be somewhere or do something, the universe has a way of aligning things, especially when your intuition guides you. At a first glance, it might not be what you were hoping for, it might even be a questionable moment where nothing of what is coming your way seems to fit but in the mystery of it all… you’re supposed to trust that things are aligning! I know, I know… hard to believe but keep reading.

I get that it is a stretch at times but let me invite you to think back to a time when you thought everything was wrong, bad, ugly – it probably was. Now, if you think of the aftermath of those moments, how have you grown, what more do you know, how is your life different? Is your life better off or worse off since that chaos?

For some, you might still be in it or not much has changed, however, for many, you can probably honestly answer… my life… is better!

If you are still “in it” and are feeling like life isn’t shifting or changing and you find yourself in the same flow, the same space of chaos, maybe it’s time to look a little deeper. Maybe it’s time to change some of your routine, some of your thought processes and habits. How about adding self-care in the mix! THAT would be fabulous.

Do you have to change everything in one day? Absolutely not!

"If you change nothing in your situation, nothing in your surroundings, nothing in your mindset, nothing in your daily habits and routines, NOTHING will change. It is simple to say but a whole other ball game to invite a shift in… “inwards”."

If you don’t know where to start, start with simple self-care.

In a world that often demands more than we can give, self-care emerges as a vital act of love towards ourselves. It’s more than just a trend; it’s a profound commitment to honoring our own needs and well-being. When we nurture ourselves, we cultivate the strength to face life’s challenges with grace and resilience. Each step we take (baby steps included) are a stepping stone to more. There is more change that occurs in someone when they take many baby steps and link them together on a longer timespan then someone trying to change everything all at once.

Baby steps, one at a time, is key!

Self-care is a gentle reminder that we are worthy of attention and kindness. It encourages us to listen to our bodies and minds, recognizing that our needs are valid and deserve to be met. This practice can take many forms—whether it’s indulging in a warm bath, taking a quiet walk in nature, or simply allowing yourself the space to breathe and reflect.

Engaging in self-care is a powerful act of reclaiming your energy. It allows you to reset, recharge, and reconnect with your true self. In moments of stillness, we find clarity and the ability to set boundaries that protect our peace. By prioritizing your well-being, creates a ripple effect, inspiring those around you to do the same.

Ultimately, self-care is about balance. It teaches you that it’s okay to take a step back, to say no when you need to, and to fill your own cup before you pour into others. In nurturing yourself, you embrace the fullness of your emotions, your dreams, and your potential.

Celebrate the power of self-care as a sacred ritual, a pathway to self-discovery, and a testament to your inherent worth. By caring for yourself, you can shine brighter, love deeper, and contribute more fully to the world around you. By taking care of you, your life will start to flow differently and bit by bit you will stand taller, think bigger and embrace life to the fullest.

One day, you will look back on the moments that were chaotic and overwhelming and realize just how fare you’ve come and thank those harder moments for bringing you where you are today.

Let me leave you with a few ideas on how you can start, initiate or dive into deeper and more transformative self-care.

Here are ten effective ways to reclaim your self-care:

1. Set Boundaries: Learn to say no without guilt. Protect your time and energy by setting clear boundaries in your personal and professional life. This is a big one but one that you can start to imagine happening and as you start to think of setting boundaries also take action towards supportive spaces, places and people who can help guide you along the way.

2. Establish a Routine: Create a daily self-care routine that includes time for activities you enjoy, whether it's reading, exercising, or meditating. Start small. A few minutes a day is all you need to initiate change.

3. Prioritize Sleep: Ensure you get enough restorative sleep. Create a calming bedtime routine to help you wind down and relax. By going to bed 30 minutes earlier (or 15) than your usual bedtime – if you are a night owl will start to get you closer to an ideal sleep routine.

4. Connect with Nature: Spend time outdoors. A walk in the park or a hike can rejuvenate your spirit and provide a fresh perspective. Simply stand on the grass near you or lean on a tree, remember baby steps are just as powerful.

5. Practice Mindfulness: Incorporate mindfulness techniques, such as meditation or deep breathing, to help reduce stress and increase awareness of your needs. 1 minute of deep breathing while using the bathroom… can shift your energy! Yup!

6. Engage in Creative Activities: Explore hobbies that inspire you, whether it's painting, writing, or crafting. Creativity can be a powerful form of self-expression. This is true, however, you don’t have to create anything that makes sense just let your heart guide the way.

7. Limit Screen Time: Reduce time spent on social media or news consumption. Instead, engage in activities that uplift you and foster connection. YES! Can’t emphasize this one enough!

8. Nurture Relationships: Spend time with supportive friends and family who uplift and encourage you. Meaningful connections can greatly enhance your well-being. Find your tribe, stay connected to those who care, life is too short to surround yourself with people and places that aren’t meaningful.

9. Explore New Interests: Try something new, like a class or a workshop, to stimulate your mind and foster a sense of adventure. You don’t have to pay for anything, there are free options. Look at your community, take the first step towards something that will help you step out of your comfort zone in a community that is welcoming.

10. Reflect and Journal: Take time to reflect on your thoughts and feelings. Journaling can help you process emotions and clarify your self-care goals. One sentence a day, 5 minutes a day, that is all that is needed. Simple, small and effective!

By incorporating these practices into your life, you can reclaim your self-care and cultivate a deeper sense of well-being. You’ve got this! I believe in you.

Let me know how you are moving along your journey and what gems you have found along the way!
